COCERAL (European Association for Trade in Cereals, Oilseeds, Feed and Other Products) forecasts wheat production (excluding durum) in the European Union and Great Britain in 2025 at 140.4 million tons. This is almost 15 million tons more than the 125.5 million tons harvested this year.
COCERAL attributes the growth in wheat production to an increase in sown areas and a return to average yields in Western Europe after the disappointing results of 2024.
The grain harvest in the region next year is expected to be 297.8 million tons. This year, 278.5 million tons were harvested.
Including, barley production in the EU-27 + Great Britain in 2025 is forecast at 59.7 million tons. This year, 57.3 million tons were harvested.
The EU-27 + UK corn yield is expected to increase to 61.9 million tonnes in 2025 (60.2 million tonnes in 2024). The yield in the Balkan countries will be much higher, while in Germany and France it will be slightly lower.
The rapeseed yield is forecast to increase from 18.3 million tonnes to 20.3 million tonnes, mainly due to a return to normal sowing patterns in Romania and Bulgaria and higher yields in France and Germany.
It should be noted that in Russia, on the contrary, a lower wheat harvest is expected in 2025. In particular, the SovEcon analytical center forecasts 78.7 million tonnes, that is, 10 million less than the average over the past five years. According to the results of 2024, the wheat harvest in the Russian Federation amounted to 81.9 million tonnes.
