To date, 2.4 million hectares of grain and leguminous crops have been harvested in Kazakhstan, or 14.1% of the harvesting area. With an average yield of 11.5 c/ha, 2.8 million tons of grain were harvested. This was announced today, on August 22, at a government meeting, Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeyev.
According to the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, mass harvesting has already begun in all regions of the republic.
"The total harvesting area of agricultural crops this year will amount to 24 million hectares, which is 651.8 thousand hectares more than in 2022. Of these, the area of grain harvesting is 17.4 million hectares. In terms of crops, the area of wheat harvesting is 13.7 million hectares, 1.5 million hectares with a yield of 11.8 c/ha were harvested, 1.8 million tons were harvested," Yerbol Karashukeyev informed.
Oilseeds have been harvested 34 thousand hectares with a yield of 6.9 c/ha, a total of 2 million 799.5 thousand hectares are planned to be harvested,
The Minister also noted that today 45.1% of grain crops (7.8 million hectares) are in good condition, 46% are in satisfactory condition (8 million hectares) and 7.5% are in poor condition (1.3 million hectares).
"At the same time, 181 thousand hectares, or less than 1%, of grain crops were lost, mainly in the Pavlodar region. We note that this indicator is lower than the average long-term - 2.4%. For comparison, in 2021, which was also considered dry, 3.8% of crops died," Yerbol Karashukeyev explained.
In the Zhambyl region, about 7.8 thousand hectares, including 1.2 thousand hectares of sugar beet crops, were affected due to low water supply from Kyrgyzstan. Currently, work is underway to declare a regional emergency and cover the costs of farmers, accelerated payment of subsidies from the republican budget in full and prolongation of loans.
