Grain reserves in Kazakhstan as of July 1 amounted to 6.1 million tons, of which 5 million tons were wheat (food wheat - 4 million tons). At the same time, this year farmers expect a high harvest, according to some forecasts - a record one. The Ministry of Agriculture does not predict a shortage of grain storage capacity, but emphasizes the need to increase shipments before the start of harvesting and free up elevators in anticipation of the new harvest. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the department, there are 191 licensed grain receiving enterprises in Kazakhstan with a total storage capacity of more than 13.2 million tons. Work to prepare them for receiving grain from the new harvest is carried out as planned. In addition, agricultural producers have storage capacity for 15.8 million tons of grain.
“In general, this volume of containers is sufficient to store grain, taking into account the predicted harvest,” the Ministry of Agriculture assured.
At the same time, the department noted that to ensure the safety of grain, measures are being taken to increase elevator capacity through the construction of new and expansion of existing grain storage facilities. In 2024-2026, it is planned to commission five grain storage facilities with a capacity of 30.2 thousand tons.
The Ministry of Agriculture also reported that in January-May 2024, 2.6 million tons of grain were shipped for export. The main buyers are Uzbekistan, China, Tajikistan, Italy, and Afghanistan. At the same time, exports to China increased by 66%: over 5 months of 2023, 152.8 thousand tons were shipped to China, and for the same period in 2024 - 254.2 thousand tons.
