At the end of 2021, the sown area of wheat in Kazakhstan amounted to 12.9 million hectares, which is 6.2% more compared to 2020. However, the gross harvest of wheat in the past 2021 decreased immediately by 17.1%, to 11.8 million tons, World of NAN reports with reference to the monitoring agency Energyprom.kz.
The decrease in the gross harvest is one of the reasons for the enormous jump in the volume of imports of wheat and meslin in the Republic of Kazakhstan. So, in 2021, 1.2 million tons of products were already imported into the country (plus 65.5% per year) for 182.9 million US dollars (plus 97.4%, that is, almost twice). Only in January of this year, 175.4 thousand tons of wheat and meslin were already imported to the Republic of Kazakhstan (annual growth of 5.6 times) for 39.2 million US dollars (an increase of 14.3 times per year).
As for exports in the sector, it also increased, despite the reduction in gross harvest: in 2021 - by 10.3%, to 5.8 million tons (and $1.4 billion).
Prices for export deliveries for wheat and meslin in January of this year increased by 19% over the year. In particular, the prices of export deliveries to the CIS countries increased by 21.8%, to the rest of the world - by 10.8%. According to the results of March, there was no sharp increase in wheat prices: so far, plus 1.5% per month. However, over the year the figure grew by a very tangible 20.1%.
