The Government of Tajikistan instructed the relevant ministries and departments to take the necessary measures to obtain a grain quota from Russia in the form of an indicative balance without customs duties.
This is stated in the Action Plan adopted by the government to prevent the impact of possible risks on the national economy.
The alleged preferential Russian grain is planned to be repaid in rubles.
Tajikistan still imports more than 90% of grain from Kazakhstan.
According to the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, in the first quarter of this year, the republic imported about 203 thousand tons of wheat worth over $60 million.
This is 7.6% less in weight than in the same period last year, and 12.7% more in value.
Tajikistan's demand for wheat exceeds 2 million tons, so the republic, according to the forecast of the Ministry of Economic Development, will purchase it in the amount of 1 million 200 thousand tons.
Recall that the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan imposes restrictions on the export of grain and flour. The corresponding order was signed by the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan on April 16 this year.
After the order is put into effect, until June 15, 2022, exports will be carried out strictly within the approved quota volumes:
- for wheat and meslin - 1 million tons;
- for wheat or wheat-rye flour - 300 thousand tons.
It should be noted that since 2013 Tajikistan has been receiving Russian oil products according to the mechanism (in the form of an indicative balance), which is planned to receive grain.
Every year, Russia allocates 830,000 tons of oil products without paying export customs duties, but Tajikistan gets only about 600,000 tons.
