A new variety of spring soft wheat "Taimas", selected by A.I. Barayev NPCKH LLP, is included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the country. Sakura lentils also received a patent, World of NAN reports.
The grain center noted that the new variety is resistant to brown rust, lodging and drought. Taimas by the type of maturation refers to medium–ripened varieties, the variety is Erythrospermum. The research results have shown that a decrease in plant height is associated with changes in growth functions, that is, there is a redistribution of biological material, due to which grain yield increases.
"According to technological indicators of grain quality, the Taimas variety belongs to strong wheat: the content of raw gluten is 32.3–34.5%, protein is 15.1-15.7%. The variety is high–yielding, over the years of study it has formed the maximum yield - 38.5 c/ ha. The new variety is recommended for cultivation in the conditions of Northern Kazakhstan," the press service of the center said.
As for the Sakura lentil variety, it is derived by individual selection from the Pink variety (Russia). In 2008-2011, the line was studied in a collection nursery. Since 2012, the line has been studied in breeding nurseries.
A variety of early ripening type. The resistance to cracking of beans is high. The duration of the period from germination to ripening is from 91 to 117 days. In comparison with the standard variety, it differs in the uniformity of maturation. Damage by pests is weak.
"The weight of 1000 seeds is from 53.6 to 77.7 g, the protein content is up to 32.67%. In the nursery of the competitive variety testing, the grain yield of the new variety averaged 11.26 c/ha with the yield of the Vekhovskaya variety - 10.04 c/ha. The excess was 1.22 kg/ha. At the same time, it is noted that the new variety is characterized by early maturation. In the production variety testing in 2016, the yield of the new variety was 17.55 c/ha," the employees of the grain center shared.
