Armenia is interested in working together with Kazakhstan on issues of selection and seed production, as well as in the supply of wheat from the Republic of Kazakhstan. This was stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Kazakhstan Armen Gevondyan at a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aidarbek Saparov, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported.

“Kazakhstan occupies one of the leading positions in the production and export of grain. Your wheat has a high gluten content, and I would like to arrange its supplies to Armenia. Please provide assistance in this matter. We are also interested in issues of phytosanitary safety and veterinary medicine,” said Armen Gevondyan.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the volume of mutual trade in agricultural products at the end of 2023 increased by 0.8%. Exports to Armenia amounted to $2.9 million, imports - $6.3 million.

As the minister noted, in Kazakhstan there is a need for supplies of fresh fruits and early vegetables, nuts from Armenia. At the same time, the potential for the export of meat and meat products, sunflower oil is not fully used.

“Taking into account the importance of agricultural science and education, we propose to intensify cooperation in the agricultural sector in the field of research activities, exchange of knowledge, experience and technologies,” said Aidarbek Saparov.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of selection and seed production of drought-resistant varieties of grain and leguminous crops, taking joint measures aimed at increasing the volume of trade in agricultural products, exchange of experience and technologies, as well as joint work in the field of selection, seed production and phytosanitary security.
