The main countries of supply of Kazakhstani grain are Central Asia, China, Afghanistan. After a relative lull, grain deliveries to Iran have resumed, half of which were shipped in September. Grain was also shipped to Italy, Turkey, Russia, the APK News agency reports.
According to the press service of the Government, Kazakhstan mainly supplies wheat to the border and central provinces of China, barley and feed crops - throughout China.
As a representative of KTZ said today at the operational headquarters for the harvesting campaign, in the first 9 months of this year, with a total volume of grain shipment of 6.6 million tons (21% less than the same period last year), the volume of transportation of milled products increased proportionally - 2.7 million tons (21% more than in the first 9 months of 2023). Of the 6.6 million tons of grain, 5 million tons were exported, and 900 thousand tons were shipped in September alone. Exports of milled products amounted to 2.1 million tons, including 310 thousand tons in September.
“The main countries of supply of Kazakhstani grain are Central Asia (2.9 million tons), China (1.3 million tons), Afghanistan (127 thousand tons), these are the volumes for 9 months of this year. It is worth noting that after a relative lull, grain supplies to Iran resumed - 211 thousand tons, of which 140 thousand tons - in September alone. 423 thousand tons were sent to other countries - Italy, Turkey and Russia. From January to September, the following were shipped to the main countries of supply of milled products: to Central Asia - 495 thousand tons, China - 639 thousand tons, Afghanistan - 666 thousand tons,” he said.
The meeting considered the regionality of supplies of Kazakhstani grain to China. According to the results of 9 months, the volume of grain transportation in covered wagons increased by 75% and in grain carriers by 5%. Container deliveries decreased by 26%. This is due to the fact that the main volume of grain in covered wagons and grain carriers is delivered through the Khorgos and Alashankou stations to the bonded zone of the XUAR, where there are no duties, for processing and further shipment of the finished product. Thus, Kazakhstani wheat mainly supplies the border and central provinces of China. A duty of 65% applies to deliveries deep into China, and along those routes, grain is mainly transported in containers. At the same time, barley and other feed crops are exported throughout China, in accordance with the needs of large procurement companies.
"Our task is to deliver 2 million tons of grain to China this year, but we can increase the volume to 3 million tons. We also need to increase flour supplies to Afghanistan. New contracts and logistics should become one of the main issues at the upcoming Kazakh-Afghan business forum in Almaty,” Serik Zhumangarin summed up the results of the meeting of the operational headquarters.
As of October 7, 94% of all grain areas have been harvested in Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of the harvesting campaign, 4.4 million tons of grain have arrived at elevators.
