In October-November 2024, Kazhydromet specialists conducted a route survey and assessed the reserves of productive soil moisture before going into winter in the regions of Kazakhstan.
It is reported that in most of the north and southeast of Kazakhstan, satisfactory and optimal moisture is observed in the meter-thick soil layer.
In the west and flat part of the east, moisture reserves are mostly low.
According to the results of the survey, the reserves of productive soil moisture in the Aktobe, Akmola, Karaganda, Abay and Turkestan regions in the fall of 2024 are lower than for the same period in 2023.
In the rest of the grain-growing regions, moisture reserves were distributed generally similar to last year.
Kazhydromet clarified that with satisfactory moisture, plants have enough soil moisture for normal growth and development, optimal soil moisture provides the best conditions for the growth and development of plants. The moisture content of the soil depends not only on its moisture content (the amount of precipitation), but also largely on the type and mechanical composition of the soil.
"Route surveys to determine the reserves of productive moisture in the soil were carried out on the latest dates before the soil began to freeze and snow cover formed, so the period of work falls on different dates from October 4 to November 25, 2024," the experts explained.
